It’s been a little while since I’ve had the honor of photographing a wedding in Maine, so I’m beyond thrilled to share Emily and Davies’ gorgeous wedding today! Their Portland Maine wedding was so thoughtfully curated and absolutely beautiful. And they picked the perfect location to showcase Portland’s beauty as the backdrop of their day. Maine was their first home together, and a special place to them overall, so it was a no-brainer choice for them to get married in Portland.
A Non-Traditional Portland Maine Wedding
Emily and Davies had a very specific and unique vision for their wedding day, and they truly nailed it. They picked a theme – Sunrise to Sunset, because they actually opted to officially get married the day before at sunrise. Then they held an afternoon & evening reception the following day. I was blown away at how they incorporated this theme throughout the entire wedding while keeping it completely elegant and artful yet super fun.
I also loved being a part of their day because of how much genuine love there was throughout. E + D are so clearly deeply in love, and their friends and family genuinely showered them with love all day. It was really moving!
It was really important to Emily and Davies to do things their way and not completely stick to tradition. Like getting married officially by themselves the day before, and they also chose to walk down the aisle together which was a fun romantic twist.
Wedding Details
Some of my favorite details from E + D’s wedding were all of their stationery and favors. They designed everything themselves and had koozies, matchboxes, menus, name cards, and even more with their gorgeous sunrise logo on them! It was all so beautiful and on-theme. Their wedding party wore colors that complemented the sunrise-to-sunset theme too, but in a non-traditional way with varying colors and patterns!
And finally, the venue that they selected, Ocean Gateway (which is owned by the city), was the perfect Portland location. The space is contemporary yet elegant, with incredible floor-to-ceiling windows and a deck with ocean views. It’s at the end of a pier and right near Old Port, so we were able to get some classic Portland photos during the day too.

Wedding Film Photography
I was able to use lots of film during Emily + Davies’ wedding, and am excited to share some here! I love incorporating film photography for my couples when I can because it’s so timeless and extra emotive.
