A New England Wedding Weekend at the Emerson Inn

March 10, 2026

As a New England wedding photographer, I always love it when my couples choose to celebrate with a wedding weekend instead of just a single day. It gives everyone more time to connect, relax, and truly enjoy the celebration together.

Madeline and Dillon’s wedding weekend in Rockport, Massachusetts, was a perfect example of this! It was full of so many special moments and thoughtful details from start to finish. And I absolutely loved their use of color throughout the event!

Madeline + Dillon’s Rockport Wedding Weekend

Madeleine and Dillon met while they were both working in Gloucester, so it made perfect sense for them to celebrate their wedding weekend on Boston’s North Shore. I had photographed their engagement session in Gloucester the previous winter (you can see those photos here!), so it was really fun to return to the area for their September wedding.

Their wedding weekend kicked off with a welcome dinner at a fresh seafood restaurant right on the water. The bright table decorations matched the energy of the food and the evening perfectly. The atmosphere was welcoming and warm, and a few of the toasts brought some happy tears. It was the perfect way to gather their guests and set the tone for the celebration ahead.

Having a welcome party can actually make your wedding day even more fun. It’s a great way for your two families (and friends!) who may not know each other to get a chance to meet and break the ice, so by the time your reception arrives, everyone is ready to have a good time together.

The Wedding Day at Emerson Inn

The following day, their wedding took place at the Emerson Inn in Rockport, a beautiful inn situated right on the coast. The weather was absolutely perfect for late September–sunny and clear with a bright blue sky that contrasted beautifully with the white inn.

Their bright color theme continued to the ceremony, with the bridesmaids wearing bright dresses that looked especially pretty in the sunshine.

Their ceremony was touching and sweet, with lots of sweet moments. Live music began during the ceremony and continued through the end of the night, which added to the fun and lively atmosphere!

Thoughtful Details Throughout Their Wedding Weekend

One of the things I loved most about Madeleine and Dillon’s wedding was all the personal touches they incorporated. A friend created a custom crossword puzzle about the couple for guests to enjoy during cocktail hour. They chose beautiful, stylish craft cocktails for signature drinks, and there was even an oyster shucker walking around, which was a perfect nod to their coastal location!

The seating chart was also really special and unique. Madeline + Dillon had created a photo display with a picture of every guest, each with a handwritten note on the back. It was such a sweet personal touch that showed how much thought they put into welcoming everyone. The guests loved it!

Even the cake reflected their bright and colorful aesthetic. It was simple and stylish, decorated with just orange slices. Their use of vibrant colors throughout the entire wedding weekend created such a cohesive and joyful feel!

This is exactly why I encourage couples to consider extending their celebration beyond just one day–it creates space for so many more meaningful moments!
