Why should you take family photos? Because they preserve this precious time in your lives.
Time is so fleeting, especially during this season of life. As a Boston family photographer and as a mother, I believe it’s really important to take time for photos! I promise that you won’t regret it. When you look back through the albums, you’ll be taken back immediately to those moments and the feelings that you were experiencing: the great love you feel for your children and your family.
My Approach to Family Photos
My approach to family photos is to capture your family in the most authentic way possible. Rather than forced and posed generic smiles, we’ll capture the real moments as they unfold naturally. I believe in photographing the fleeting moments:
- The happy chaos
- The little laughs and big toothless grins
- Hands that fit into yours
Because those are the things that really matter.
The way I’m able to do this is with a child-led and storytelling approach. Letting your kids be themselves and embracing what unfolds will lead to images that are a reflection of your family’s story right now. I love to follow the kids as they explore and play. Their energy and imaginations are so unique and this creates truly authentic moments! Even if they get messy – that’s the beauty of what we’re documenting for you.
Tips for Boston Family Photo Sessions
My best advice for parents who are planning a family photo session is to just be ready to have fun as a family. However, there are also some things you can do to ensure that both you as the parents, as well as your kiddos, actually have a good time!
- Full Bellies – I always recommend making sure that the little ones have something to eat beforehand so they’re comfortable and relaxed.
- Come Rested – As best you can, ensure that your kiddos (and you!) are rested before the session, especially if we are doing an activity together.
- Relaxed Parents – Remember, there’s no pressure here! The goal is to capture your family as you truly are, so come with the expectation that we are just here to have fun, and I promise you will wind up with beautiful images that tell your story.
