If creating impactful and special wedding photos is important to you on your wedding day, then we speak the same language! I find that couples often get lost in the desire to create the “perfect” wedding photos, and forget to stay present and actually enjoy their day. So today I’m sharing my tips for how to get impactful and special wedding photos that you’ll cherish forever. One of my 2022 couples did this really well and planned an unforgettable day for them and their guests filled with so many sweet moments. It’s my pleasure to share their photos today!
Tip 1: Don’t Focus On Creating Staged Moments for Special Wedding Photos
Out of all of the weddings I have had the honor to photograph, Grace and Adityo’s September backyard wedding was one of the most beautiful, genuine wedding days I have been privileged to be a part of. Their day consisted of truly authentic moments with their family and friends celebrating their marriage.
My best advice to my couples is that your wedding day doesn’t need to be about formalities and staged moments for photos. You should be able to enjoy yourselves and let the real moments be captured by your photographer! That is what I loved most about Grace and Adityo’s day. There was no production for photography and I was able to capture it as it authentically unfolded. And they have special wedding photos that show real moments and genuine connections because of this. From the authentic, non-staged getting-ready photos, to the backyard reception, the entire day was filled with honest moments.
Tip 2: Don’t Worry About the Formality of Family Portraits
As you prepare for your wedding day, one of the things we will go over is your list of must-have family photos. A lot of couples tend to stress about getting the “perfect” family and wedding party portraits on their wedding day. That is just not necessary! No matter what, you will look back on your wedding photos and cherish the memories you made. When we took Grace and Adityo’s family photos it was such a fun experience, and I think that really shows in the photographs! Everyone’s real joy shines through in their genuine smiles and laughter.

Tip 3: Planning the Day that You Want to Have Makes for More Impactful and Special Wedding Photos
My third tip for creating impactful and special wedding photos that you’ll really cherish is to plan the wedding day that you want to have, not what anyone else expects of you. Grace and Adityo’s wedding was exactly that. They had a backyard celebration that was true to who they are. They incorporated each of their heritages – his Indonesian and her Polish roots in multiple ways. Their talented families came together for the reception and showcased their hospitality and cooking which was such a delight. It was a truly joyous day and shows in all of the candid photos!
So in summary, really try to live your wedding day, and don’t worry about trying to stage it.
