Whether or not to have Boston engagement photos taken is a question that I often hear from couples. Taking engagement pictures before your big day can be beneficial for many reasons! Not only do you wind up with a gallery of gorgeous photos that encapsulate your love, but you can also use the images in different ways throughout your wedding planning process and on your wedding day. Today I’m sharing 3 big reasons why you should have engagement pictures taken.
3 Reasons To Take Boston Engagement Photos
1. You’ll Get To Know Your Photographer Before Your Wedding Day
The first reason I always suggest having engagement photos taken with your photographer is that you can understand what it feels like to be photographed before your wedding day. You have the opportunity to get to know your photographer and what it’s like working together, which means one less thing to worry about on your wedding day! You want to ensure that you are relaxed and comfortable with your photographer. Having an engagement photo session beforehand is extremely valuable for this reason.
And, a lot of my couples still remember the little tips for taking photos that I shared during the engagement session, and are excited to bring them into their wedding images!
2. You Can Use Your Engagement Pictures for Save-The-Dates
The second reason to have engagement pictures taken is that you can use the photos in different ways. Lots of couples use the photos from this session on their save-the-dates, wedding guest books, or other wedding day decor. The photos that you will have from your session are great moments to share with your guests! I can also help you print these products if you need them.
When To Take Your Boston Engagement Photos?
If you do plan to use your photos as save-the-dates, then I recommend getting your session on the calendar 10-14 months before your wedding. The general rule of thumb is that save-the-dates should be sent out anywhere from 8-12 months before your wedding. You will want to keep this in mind as you are planning your session. I will have the photos back to you within 4 weeks of our session for you to share.
If you are not thinking about mailing your images out before your wedding, then you have a lot more flexibility in terms of when to have your session. I always suggest thinking about the feeling and energy you want your photos to have – this helps to narrow down the time of year you’d like to take pictures.
Also, these couples’ photo sessions don’t always have to be before your wedding either! An anniversary session or session just after your wedding will capture all of the emotion and connection you share with the added bonus of not having any possible wedding stressors on your mind.
3. You’ll Capture The True Essence of your Relationship
The third, and possibly most impactful, reason to have engagement photos taken is because it allows us to capture the everyday moments and subtleties of your relationship. Your wedding is an incredible event, but I believe that it is the everyday moments that make up the majority of your lives that deserve to be captured as well.
